Worktop guide

Picking a worktop colour and finish

A worktop never sits on its own. Choose its colour and finish alongside the cabinets, floor, wall surface and lighting that will surround it.

Build a small, useful shortlist

Start with two or three directions instead of collecting dozens of unrelated samples. You might compare a quiet light surface, a darker contrast and a more expressive pattern. Give each option a reason to remain on the list.

Use the material comparison to avoid choosing a look before understanding its upkeep. Then keep the exact product names with your samples.

Look in more than one light

Place samples beside the cabinet and floor finishes. Compare them in daylight and with the lighting you intend to use in the evening. Look at the surface from standing and seated positions, particularly if the island faces a living space.

Screen images can help you shortlist, but they should not be the sole basis for a final colour decision. Ask what we can provide for the actual material under consideration.

Check the scale of the design

A small sample does not reveal a complete veined pattern. Ask for a larger view and discuss what happens at joins, corners and waterfall ends. Think about where appliances will interrupt the pattern.

For natural stone, review the slabs intended for the job. For manufactured designs, ask about pattern placement and any differences between the face and edge.

Choose the finish as deliberately as the colour

Compare available finishes with your own eyes and hands. Ask how each finish should be cleaned, how everyday marks may show and whether any options change the fabrication or maintenance advice.

We confirm availability for the exact product. A colour seen in one finish or application may not be offered in every format.

Keep a record of the decision

Put the product name, finish, thickness and chosen edge into the written specification. Keep an approved sample where possible and ask how any proposed substitute will be handled.

Explore matching wall surfaces and edge details before treating your selection as complete.

Questions people ask

Should every surface in the kitchen match?

That is a design choice. Compare the whole combination and make sure different materials have clearly recorded specifications and care instructions.

Can I order from a photograph?

Use a photograph to communicate your direction, then confirm the exact product and its appearance through the selection process.
