Stone worktops in Cricklewood

Cricklewood sits on the Edgware Road, which also marks the line between Barnet and Brent. We template and fit stone worktops on the Barnet side and across NW2, in Edwardian terraces, railway cottages and converted flats.

Split down the Broadway

Cricklewood Broadway is part of the Edgware Road, which follows the course of Roman Watling Street. It is also the boundary between the London Boroughs of Barnet and Brent, so the two sides of the same high street answer to different councils. If you need planning permission for an extension, check which side your street is on. Fitting new worktops inside your home doesn't need permission.

The Railway Terraces

In 1881 the Midland Railway moved its locomotive works to the new Brent Sidings and built housing for its workers. Those streets, including Gratton Terrace, are now the Railway Terraces conservation area: around 180 houses and 52 flats behind the shops of Burlington Parade. They were built as workers' cottages, so the rooms are modest. A single straight run or a tight L-shape in quartz can make one feel much bigger, especially in a pale colour.

Edwardian streets and conversions

Barnet Council's historians date Thorverton, Caddington and Dersingham Roads to 1907 onwards, and the area was largely built up by 1933. Some of these houses have since been split into flats. Tell us which floor your kitchen is on and how the stairs turn, because long pieces of stone may need a join to get up them.

Aircraft and the airfield

Handley Page built aircraft at 110 Cricklewood Lane from 1912 to 1917, and the aerodrome next to the factory was used for the first London to Paris air service in the 1920s. Today the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration and Brent Cross West station, opened in 2023, are bringing a new wave of homes to the area.

Questions from Cricklewood

Do you fit worktops on the Brent side of Cricklewood?

Yes. We cover NW2 on both sides of the Broadway.

Our railway cottage kitchen is tiny. Is stone worth it?

Often, yes. A small kitchen needs less stone, and a pale quartz or porcelain worktop with a matching upstand makes the room feel bigger.

We live in a first-floor flat in an Edwardian house. Can you get stone up the stairs?

Usually. We plan the size of each piece so it can be carried safely, which can mean a join in a longer run.
